Leptin Blood Test

Leptin is often called a 'hunger hormone' because it regulates appetite by signalling to the brain that you have eaten enough food. This test measures the level of leptin in your blood.

Leptin communicates directly with your brain, telling it how much fat is in storage. It controls appetite, energy and metabolic rate.  Insufficient leptin can cause a persistent sensation of hunger.  It also plays a very important role in calorie intake and calorie burning. This test may indicate why you have constant problems controlling your weight. If you lose and gain weight only to revert to the same size, you may have a problem with your leptin levels.

Allergy Screen (UK) Blood Test

A large proportion of society have certain allergies, although some may not know it yet. In those with an allergies, the body confuses a harmless allergen as a dangerous threat and so creates an inappropriate immune response. Allergic reactions can range from mild to severe, with symptoms extending from skin rashes and a runny nose, to difficulty breathing and seizures. This blood test checks to see if you are allergic to 17 of the most common allergens in the UK. Includes tests for peanuts, soya, wheat and pet dander.

There are several types of allergic conditions, this test looks specifically for the triggers for Immunoglobulin E (IgE) mediated allergies. This type of allergic reaction typically develops quickly after encountering an allergen, and can cause hives, itching and lip or facial swelling.

A positive result for a specific allergen increases the likelihood that there is an IgE mediated allergy for that substance. However it is possible for a positive result to exist in someone who does not have an allergy to that allergen.

This test looks for IgE reactions to the following substances which are common causes of allergy in the UK:

Food Mix: Cod Cows Milk Egg White Soya Bean Peanut Wheat

Grass Mix: Cocksfoot Meadow Fescue Meadow Rye Timothy

Individual Allergens: Cat Dander Cladosporium Herbarum Dog Dander House Dust Mite Latex Fish: Cod

Iron Deficiency Check Blood Test

This simple finger-prick blood test can give you detailed information about your iron status to help identify iron deficiency anaemia or iron overload.

Iron is an element that we require for several different bodily processes such as creating new red blood cells, carrying oxygen around the body and strengthening our immune system. Most of the iron in our bodies is found in haemoglobin, a protein in our red blood cells. A smaller proportion is stored in a protein called ferritin that is responsible for controlling the release of iron when levels are too low or high. Iron status tests measure the total amount of iron in the blood with a view to diagnosing anaemia or iron overload (haemochromatosis). They also test your body's ability to absorb iron as well as the amount of iron stored in your body.

What is included in the test:.

Adrenal Function Tests

Cortisol Saliva Tests

This is the primary test to test for adrenal fatigue.

A simple adrenal function saliva test which measures cortisol levels 4 times throughout the day

Cortisol Blood Tests

To follow -up a saliva test with very low cortisol levels.

Cortisol blood tests are used to assess stress levels and help diagnose Cushing's syndrome and Addison's disease which are both adrenal disorders.

Blood - finger-prick or venous

ACTH

To assess Addison's Disease

ACTH regulates the production and secretion of the hormone cortisol by the adrenal gland.

An ACTH test is normally performed on persons with whose cortisol hormone levels are abnormal. An ACTH test can help to diagnose adrenal or pituitary diseases such as Cushing's syndrome, Cushing's disease, Addison's disease, adrenal tumours, and pituitary tumours.

Sodium

To assess Addison's Disease

Sodium is an essential electrolyte. It can be low in patients suffering from Addison's disease.

Blood - finger-prick or venous

Potassium

To assess Addison's Disease

Potassium is essential in regulating how the heart beats. It also helps in the transfer of nutrients into cells and of waste products out of cells and it influences the communication between nerves and muscles. Because potassium is not stable in postal samples, this test must be carried out at the laboratory.

Blood Glucose

To assess Addison's Disease

Blood sugars can drop to very low levels in Addison's disease, causing fatigue.

Adrenal Cortex Antibodies

To assess Addison's Disease

Adrenal Cortex Antibodies destroy adrenal tissue, interfering with hormone production, by damaging various adrenal proteins, particularly the 21-hydroxy enzymes. This prevents the adrenal glands from functioning properly, meaning that they produce reduced amounts of steroid hormones, such as cortisol and aldosterone.

Aldosterone (Blood)

To assess Addison's Disease

Aldosterone is secreted by the adrenal cortex and is responsible for the reabsorption of sodium into the bloodstream.

Pituitary Function Profile

This test is performed to check the function of various hormone productions of the pituitary gland.

The pituitary gland is a small gland in the base of the brain, a few inches behind the bridge of the nose, which has major role in the control of your body hormone production.
