Folic Acid 400µg

100 tablets

Folic acid plays an essential role in cell multiplication and is critical in DNA and RNA formation, and is therefore especially important in foetal development. It is now widely accepted and established that lack of folate during the first trimester of pregnancy increases the risk of neural tube defects in the developing baby. Folic acid in also known to play an important part in the body’s regulation of homocysteine, the amino acid like compound that is implicated in the damage that occurs to the lining of blood vessel walls that can then lead to the build up of plaques.

Folic acid is a water soluble vitamin which the body cannot store for long. Good food sources include green vegetables and whole grains. However cooking and storage can deplete the levels in food and currently 47% of women fail to consume the NRV of 200µg/day, which is why supplementation is recommended. Bioavailability studies indicate that folic acid supplements are well absorbed and are a reliable way to guard against dietary deficiencies.

This product provides 400µg of folic acid which is up to 3 times the level supplied by many people’s diets, and the level that is increasingly recommended.

Iron Citrate

100 Tablets

Low iron intakes are surprisingly common in the UK and official data shows that 89% of young women have a daily intake of iron which is less than the RNI of 14.8mg. This reflects the move towards vegetarian diets and declining intakes of red meat.

Iron is known to contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and we highly recommend that any adult, particularly women of menstruating age, who eat a vegetarian diet, or very little red meat, should consider adding an iron supplement to their daily regime.

  • Supplied in the form of citrate as this is known to be easily absorbed
  • Some nutritionists consider this form to be less likely to cause constipation than the more common ferrous sulphate

Vitamin D3 Drops

Our bodies obtain vitamin D3 (which, strictly speaking is a steroid hormone) from two sources, our diet and from the action of sunlight on our skin which drives the natural production within the body. If we all had plenty of sun then we would have plenty of vitamin D, but in reality we do need to obtain some from our diet, particularly during the winter months and particularly in the elderly as the body’s ability to manufacture vitamin D declines with age. Indeed as many as 60 percent of the UK population is vitamin D deficient and low levels have been linked to serious health problems in later life.

This is not surprising when one considers the fact that it is involved in the expression of more than 1000 genes. So whilst it is renowned for its vital role in the maintenance of normal bone health, in reality it actually acts on cells in every organ of the body and has extremely far-reaching effects on human health.

  • Vitamin D3 drops
  • Each drop provides 5µg (200iu) of vitamin D3
  • Easy and convenient to take
  • Tasteless and odourless, palatable to even the fussiest of people
  • Excellent choice for the whole family
