The Protein Index is an assessment of protein deficiency. This may be due to a diet that is low in protein and available amino acids. Another reason for protein deficiency is digestive dysfunction, which will greatly compromise protein digestion and absorption. If the body is preferentially shuttling available amino acids to create substances such as C-Reactive Protein, the available pool of amino acids goes down and you may be protein deficient. With a High Protein index we need to thoroughly evaluate your stomach function with respect to hypochlorhydria (a lack of stomach acid) and also check your diet to make sure that you are consuming enough of protein.
